Super Seniors
The word from Bill Brannon, your Super Seniors coordinator:
The 2009 season play will hopefully begin either August 31 or September 14 depending on the number of teams registered by the last week in August. Registration for teams will open and remain open until August 25th. New players may be added to registered teams until October 10th. The state round robin tournament will be held at Wild Dunes from November 5 through 9.
Play date will be Sundays at 2 PM. Each team must make its own arrangements with home courts and pay for the court usage. Home teams will provide balls and refreshments. REMEMBER- no alcoholic beverages at City or County courts.
In registering teams note the following: "C" for CTL, followed by the following letter as appropriate for the team (Y for SS 60's, X for SS 70's and "Z" for SS 75's); that is followed by the initials of the Captain, the team name and appropriate designator for the home courts (i.e. PK for Parklane, SEP for Southeast Park, CTC for Columbia Tennis Center, GV for Greenview and so forth as listed on the CTL website). League player fees will be $20.00.
Captains should become familiar with Local League Rules and The Code as presented in the Friend at Court. League play will be governed by those rules and The Code as well as other rules of tennis as may be found in Friend at Court. (Friend at Court is available on the USTA website and may also be purchased from USTA South Carolina.
The state tournament will be held November 5-9 at Wild Dunes in the Charleston area. SS 75 and 70 will report on Wednesday for registration and for play to begin Thursday. SS 60 play will begin with registration on Thursday. The state tournament will use the Coman tiebreak procedure for both set and match tiebreak. The end point is the same as in the more familiar tiebreak i.e. first to 7 points with a 2 point margin in the set tiebreak and the first to 10 by a margin of 2 in the match tiebreak. In the Coman however players will change ends after the first point and after every fourth point thereafter.
I encourage the Coman procedure be used in the regular league season so as to become familiar with the required changes.
As has been the policy at the state tournament players playing in multiple flights will not receive any considerations in the scheduling of matches in the various flights. So, if you play in 75's 70's and 60's which some are eligible to do you may have a match in two of those flights scheduled at the same time.
If any other issues arise please let me know. Wbrannonjr@sc.rr.com. I check e-mail once or twice a day and am generally available except Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
