Important - only one appeal will be granted
- i.e. if you appeal up or down and the appeal is granted, you cannot appeal again to reverse the results.
- 0.05 is added or subtracted from the player's actual computer rating. If the newly calculated rating falls within range, the appeal will be granted.
Appeal information for players aged 60 and older.
- Players who are at least 60 years old are allowed a range of 0.1 for appeals instead of the 0.05 normally allowed.
- Players who turn 60 in 2008 will be allowed the greater range of 0.1 if and only if they make the appeal in 2008. If the player appeals in 2007, the 0.05 range will be used.
How to appeal your computer rating (non-medical appeals)
- Click on the TennisLink icon in the upper left corner of this page
- In the column on the right side of the TennisLink page, under the heading "League Players", click on "Find a Rating".
- Enter your USTA # in the box and click "go". (If you are a captain appealing for one of your players, enter the USTA # of the player.)
- A page with rating information will appear. If your rating can be appealed (not all can), a blue link that says "appeal rating" will appear at the end of the line containing your rating information. Click on that link.
- Enter the zip code of the player in the box. Please note that the zip code is the same as the information on file in the TennisLink database, so if your information is not correct in TennisLink, you may get an error. (Just make sure all your TennisLink information is correct and everything will be fine.)
- You'll need to select 2 buttons in this step. The first is whether you want your rating to go up or go down. The second is whether you are the player or the captain. If you are the captain, you'll need to type in your USTA #. Click submit once you have made your choices.
- The appeal is instantly granted or denied and the result will appear on the screen. If you wish to e-mail the results to someone (say, for example that your captain has asked you to appeal your rating, you may forward the results to him or her). The e-mail contains the same information that appears on your results screen.
- You may appeal your rating at any time, but if you participate in spring or mixed doubles leagues, don't expect your rating to go down in the middle of the season. This procedure will be most useful at the end of the year when the new year-end ratings are released.
How to appeal your rating with a medical appeal
- The player needs to submit 2 things to the appeals committee; an evaluation from a physician AND the medical appeal form.
- The physician's evaluation must be on the physician's letterhead. The evaluation must include an evaluation of the injury or illess and a prognosis for recovery including a time frame. The physician should not attempt to determine the player's NTRP rating, but should only provide an evaluation of the medical condition.
- Fill out the medical appeal form completely. It can be printed out and filled in by hand or you may fill in the blanks (except for the signature and date) online. If you opt to fill out the online form, please note that when providing information about the divisions you have participated in, there are drop-down menus. You will need to scroll to the level you played and then click on it to select it, otherwise, it will not show up when you print it out.
- Print out the form and mail it to Phil Meador. His address is on the form. You will be notified in writing once a decision is made.
